If individual scoring high marks are less then the cut off marks decreases. Cut off marks depends on toughness of question paper as well as quality of students.

Cut off marks for JEE mains as it suggests is the minimum marks to qualify to write JEE Advance.As the number of candidates required to write JEE Advance are around 1.5 lakhs each year from the crowd of over 15 lakh students appearing for mains ,thus a minimum qualifying marks is to be defined so that a total of 1.5 lakh students can qualify from all the categories, so it is really obvious that the cut off is going to vary every year based on the paper toughness and number of students with the former being more effective in deciding the cut off factor.
