Hello Tanishk,

With a 77 percentile in JEE Mains as a General category, non-home state candidate, securing admission in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) or Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at National Institutes of Technology (NITs) or Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) is challenging. However, you might consider the following government engineering colleges :-

  • College of Engineering and Management, Kolaghat (West Bengal): Offers ECE and Electrical Engineering programs.
  • Darbhanga College of Engineering (Bihar): Provides Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Government Engineering College (Himachal Pradesh): Offers ECE programs.
  • Shershah Engineering College (Bihar): Provides Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • Supaul College of Engineering (Bihar): Offers ECE and Electrical Engineering programs.
  • Motihari College of Engineering (Bihar): Provides Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Wishing you the best !

Hello Tanishk,

With 77 percentile in JEE Mains under the General category (Non-Home State) , getting ECE or EEE in NITs or IIITs is very difficult , as cutoffs for these branches are usually much higher.

Possible Options:

  1. Low-tier NITs (Less likely) – Some newer or less preferred NITs may have seats in lower-demand branches , but ECE/EEE is still tough.

  2. IIITs (Unlikely for Core Branches) – Most IIITs have higher cutoffs for ECE. However, you can check newer IIITs.

  3. Other Government Colleges – Consider GFTIs (Government-Funded Technical Institutes) where cutoffs are lower.

  4. Private Colleges with JEE Admission – Universities like Shiv Nadar, UPES, LNMIIT, or MIT Pune accept JEE scores for ECE/EEE.

    What to Do Next?
  • Check JoSAA and CSAB counseling rounds – You may get some vacant seats in later rounds.

  • Look at state counseling – Some state universities offer seats based on JEE rank.

  • Consider private institutes – Some top private colleges provide good placements in ECE/EEE.

If ECE/EEE is your priority, you may need to consider private colleges or take a drop year to improve your score.
