Kin,
GATE exam has seen a steep rise in the number of applicants over past few years. Clearing GATE with a good rank opens up a bag of opportunity for a person. A good rank can get you a good PSU job or a Master’s Degree. But to crack exam, is a game of smart strategic planning and hard work. Here are some tips that might help you in your journey of preparing GATE:
Motivation: Start your preparation with your strong subjects, this will boost your motivation and it is essential in starting. So, cover your strong subjects first then gradually move to the other subjects. Gate preparation comprises of two steps concept learning and problem solving. Make sure you give time to both the steps.
Study Material: It is the most crucial element for your success. Syllabus of GATE exam is very specific and no subject requires in depth knowledge. So, reading all the books may not prove to be as beneficial from the point of clearing the exam. There are many coaching institutes like Made easy, IES master etc. which have good and GATE specific study material available. You can order those material or can even make notes yourself but you should always stick of syllabus of exam only. Subjects like: Engineering Math’s and General Aptitude portion is common for all engineering courses. These subjects are also play a vital role in scoring and getting high rank. So, do not neglect these subjects. Together they will comprise about 25% of the total marks. So, try and be perfect in those areas.
Time Management: You should manage your time according to your preparation for the exam. You have to stick to your schedule from the very beginning when you have committed to yourself to crack it. Therefore, proper time management is required to achieve your goal.
Previous year papers: Collect previous year papers of the exam, and try to observe pattern and trends in the questions. Try to make out the topics which have the maximum weightage, the topics which are asked very frequently, the topics which are easier but still have a considerable weightage, etc. That will help you a lot in end. Make sure you don’t leave topic which are asked frequently in examination.
Mock Test Series: It is an essential part of your preparation. Not everyone can handle the pressure of the exam when all of your previous year’s preparation is at stake, and the clock is ticking continuously. To get used to the feel of the exam, it is essential to join a good test series and make sure you attempt a sufficient number of tests. GATE is an online exam so, appearing in test series gives you feel of exam. After giving your mock test series, go back and see where you lost your marks and work on it periodically.
Make a study plan and follow it religiously and there will be nothing between you and success, except time.
Both modes are definitely available to you and thousands of candidates qualify jee main using either modes coaching center just provides you an organized way to move about but in self study you will have to do every thing on your own if you do self study then in case of doubts you will have no one to ask from but in coaching you will have your tutors but if there is a will there is a way so at the end I would recommends you to join a coaching center as why to lag behind others initially when you have option of not to but in case you want to do self study only then join any test series of a coaching center as it will keep you organized hope this helps.
