see there is many courses offers by iits, which includes graduation, post graduation, phd, mba, mtech etc. so you can join for further studies or as a research fellow in iits if you qualified certain criteria and are belongs from the mentioned stream  of studies. so right now if

that means first you can do polytechnic course then you can b.tech course through lateral entry. total studying years will be equal to 3+3=6 years
