No, It is not mandatory to have a sports certificate, however, students who have some experience in sports are given higher priority for admission.
If you have completed class 12, the duration of the course is 3-4 years and the eligibility is to clear 10+2.
If you have completed the graduation and you wish to get admission in BPED, then the duration of the course is 1-2 years.

see there is two type of bachelor in physical education course, 3 years bped course is offers to candidates who have passed their 10+2 course from a recognized education board and must have the qualifying marks as mentioned by the colleges, however some of the institute offers bped course of 2 years for candidates who have already passed their graduation. you may follow the below link to know about bped colleges of india,

For taking admission in BPed (Bachelor of Physical Education) course you must have cleared your class 12 from any recongnised board and should have a score of minimum 45%-60% marks for the course of durations 3-4 years.
For the course which has duration of 1-2 years then this percentage of minimum marks required is 50%-60% marks.
It consists of Theory subjects and practical subjects both.

B.P.E.D is stands for Bachelor of physics education.Its a undergraduate course after 12th duration of 3 years. B.P.E.D offer both regular and Distance courses for Aspirants. Not all colleges offer B.P.E.D distance courses.Some of colleges offer distance course

For BPEd in Delhi University, selection is based on the combined weighted average of percentage scored in the Entrance Test with 50%, Physical Fitness with 20%and Sports proficiency with 30%.The entrance test will be conducted in Hindi and English.

For BHU, admission for BPEd is done through BHU UET; Entrance test conisists of 100 MCQs for a duration of 90 minutes duration for 300 marks with questions shall be based on General Studies, Aptitude Test, Current Affairs and General Knowledge aboutSports. Physical Fitness Test of 300 marks to be conducted at Department of Physical Education, BHU at Varanasi for shortlisted candidates.

In case of Punjab Universty, admission for BPEd is done through PU CET, equal weightage is given to academics and entrance test with 75 MCQs for a duration of one and half hour is conducted for 75 marks which consists of aptitude, general knowledge and reasoning ability, and also there's physical efficiency test to be qualified in 35 seconds.
For MSc Biotechnology,75 MCQs for a duration of one and half hour for 75 marks, syllabus is based on the graduation subject only.
