My brother has failed in English with two other main subject. Is he eligible for compartment cause English is an additional subject?

Prachi Kumari 29th Mar, 2025

Hello,

If your brother has failed in English (as an additional subject) along with two main subjects , then he is not eligible for the compartment exam.

Compartment is allowed only if a student fails in one or two main subjects . Since he has failed in two main subjects, he would not qualify for the compartment exam. He may have to appear for a re-exam (improvement) or repeat the year , depending on the board's rules.

Hope it helps !

My brother has failed in English with two other main subject. Is he eligible for compartment cause English is an additional subject?

SUKRITI GUPTA 4th Apr, 2025

Greetings! Here's a detailed response to your query.

It's a tough situation when a student fails multiple subjects. Let's break down the compartment eligibility.

Generally, compartment exams are offered to students who fail in one or two main subjects. The purpose is to give them a chance to improve their results without having to repeat an entire academic year.

Now, the crucial point here is the distinction between "main" and "additional" subjects. English, even if considered an additional subject in your brother's case, can still be a core requirement for passing the overall examination, depending on the educational board's rules.

If the board mandates a passing grade in English to clear the overall exams, even if it's considered "additional", then failing it will count towards the total number of failed subjects.

Therefore, if your brother has failed two main subjects and English, that's a total of three failed subjects. Most boards only allow compartment exams for one or two failed subjects.

So, unfortunately, he likely won't be eligible for a compartment exam in this scenario.

However, it's absolutely vital to confirm this with your brother's school or the relevant education board. Rules can vary, and there might be specific provisions or exceptions. They can provide the most accurate and up-to-date information.

In the meantime, focus on supporting your brother. Encourage him to understand where he struggled and start preparing for any potential re-examination or alternative options.

My brother has failed in English with two other main subject. Is he eligible for compartment cause English is an additional subject?

Rubina Naseer 29th Mar, 2025

If English is an additional subject and your brother has failed in it along with two main subjects , his eligibility for the compartment exam depends on the board's rules:

  1. CBSE Board – A student can appear for a compartment exam if they fail in one or two main subjects but must have passed the additional subject. Failing in three subjects usually leads to a reappear or failure status instead of a compartment.

  2. State Boards – Rules may vary, so checking with the respective board’s official guidelines is essential.

It’s best to consult the school or board's official website for confirmation.

Will I be eligible for JEE mains and advance after giving class 12th from NIOS again? I am a pcb student who passed out of class 12th with pcb, English and IP in 2024. I dont want to continue in this path and do btech cse instead. I have also taken maths through on demand NIOS exam. Nevertheless my options are very limited as far as I can see for btech colleges due to my two marksheets (pcb from cbse and maths from nios). Im not eligible for JOSAA counseling and didnt give JEE this year. I dont feel like settling for a bad college so I was thinking about taking a second drop to give NIOS public exam in October 2025 with pcmb and English. And at last aim for JEE mains, advance, comedk etc. Im just wondering if I will be eligible after all this. Whether it be JEE mains or advanced. I tried to reach out to NTA helplines but no response.

Yes, you will be eligible for JEE Main and JEE Advanced after completing Class 12th through NIOS with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology (PCMB) in 2025. Here's a concise overview:

1. JEE Main Eligibility:

  • Educational Qualification: Pass Class 12 or equivalent with PCM subjects from a recognized board like NIOS.

  • Year of Appearance: Candidates who will appear for their Class 12 examination in 2025 are eligible for JEE Main 2025.

2. JEE Advanced Eligibility:

  • Performance in JEE Main: Be among the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main.

  • Number of Attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.

  • Year of Appearance in Class 12: Candidates should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. vedantu.com (https://jeeadv.ac.in/eligibility.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com)

3. JoSAA Counseling Eligibility:

  • Subjects Requirement: Must have Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12.

  • Aggregate Marks: Achieve a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Class 12 for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the required aggregate is 65%.

4. NIOS Recognition:

  • NIOS is a recognized board, and its certificates are valid for JEE and subsequent admissions.

5. Additional Considerations:

  • Ensure all required subjects are completed in the same examination sitting to meet eligibility criteria.

  • Stay updated with official notifications from NTA and JoSAA for any changes in eligibility criteria.

Conclusion: By reappearing for Class 12 through NIOS with PCMB in 2025, you align with the eligibility requirements for JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and JoSAA counseling. Diligent preparation and adherence to application timelines will be crucial for your success.
