Indian Institute of Management
Hello Aspirant,
MBA is one of the big job oriented professional programme to enter corporate world with wide exposure and great amount of knowledge. There are many exams conducted for the programme like CAT, CMAT, MAT, CAT is the biggest National level Exam whose score is valid for most of the colleges.
After MBA Exam, Every college including IIMs prepare a merit list based on the aggregate score which comprises of many factors such as MBA exam marks, 10th 12th and graduation percentage, Work experience etc. to call the students for Interview & WSAT round. After completing this round again a new merit list is made including interview and WSAT marks which along with MBA exam marks have the highest weightage in final list. This final list is used to call students for admission.
Good Luck!
Hi Shaikh,
For IIMs, there are several categories that they take into account while calling a person for Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds. There is separate cut off percentile for SC,ST,OBC and General category. Though the General category cut off is very high, other cut offs are significantly low. Plus, IIMs do consider diversity in their batch. Since most of the applicants have an engineering background, people with low CAT score but graduation in some other streams other than Engineering are also given a call, even though they are of the general category.
I am giving you the list of some of the best B-Schools and their CAT cut off percentile as well:

For some of the baby IIMs like:
-they may give you a call even if your CAT percentile is 90-95. But for IIMs there is a catch. The catch is they consider sectional cut offs as well. So even if you score more than 95 percentile in CAT but low in one section which doesn’t qualify in their eligibility criteria, then you will be out of the race.
IIM Kozhikode tells you to fill their second form if you have cleared their sectional cut offs and your overall percentile is more than 90. IIM Ranchi HR program, gives you a call to fill another form if you have scored more than 85 percentile in CAT.
IIMs do carry a brand name with them but other tier-1 institutes are equally good. So try hard and I wish that you convert one of the IIMs . Do write to us in case of any other query and we will be glad to help you. All the best!!!

Dear Aspirant,
IIM Placements are usually made for the PGP batch between February and July of each year. The average salary package offered to top IIM candidates ranges from Rs 20-25 lakh per year, while the salary packages of newer IIMs range from Rs 10-20 lakh per year. The highest salary offer in the top IIMs- A, B, C has seen Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1 crore being offered as CTC. The foreign pay packages offered are Rs 60 lakh and above.
Top domestic and international companies such as E&Y, Deloitte, Walmart, Accenture, JP Morgan Chase, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Tolaram, Squareyards & Protiviti, EXL, KPMG, HSBC, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Zomato, ICICI Bank, Bajaj, Axis, Tata, WIPRO, etc. visit the IIM Recruitment Campuses for graduates in various job positions.
Graduates of the PGP are offered different management roles in different sectors and domains. Function-wise, most of the deals are made for positions such as Consultants and Managers.
Summer internships are arranged for companies to recruit students for internships in April-May. This also helps to build a pre-placement (PPO) network. Summer placements take place over 4-5 days in the month of March. This process is guided by a detailed set of rules for both students and recruiters. Earlier placements at IIMs take place a few months before the final placements, in which 2-year PGP students with work experience (18 months and more) will participate. The final placement cycle that takes place in February-March is almost the same across all IIMs except for a few minor variations here and there. For example, IIM Ahmedabad follows a cohort-based system instead of a day-to-day approach. The cohort-based system helps recruiters to assess candidates over a longer period of time.
Hope this helps. All the best!
The first step in admission into the IIMs is to take the CAT test. The CAT Exam 2019 took place on 24 November 2019 and the result was announced on 4 January 2020. The IIM admission process will soon begin with the shortlisting of candidates for written skills test (WAT), group discussion (GD) and personal interview (PI) rounds.
The IIM admission criteria and selection process not only involves the selection of candidates on the basis of their CAT percentile, but also on the basis of WAT / GD-PI results, academic history, academic diversity, gender diversity and work experience.
Admission criteria and the selection process of each IIM are announced in advance for candidates to know the shortlist cut-off, selection criteria, Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT), Personal Interview (PI) process and the calculation of CAT scores / percentages.
Once the CAT results have been announced, the 20 IIM campuses screen the test participants on the basis of their respective CAT scores and academic record (Performance in Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation). CAT cut percentiles are set for each IIM, section wise and division wise. Cut off the percentiles and the weight assigned to CAT (and other parameters) for the WAT / GD-PI round varies for each IIM.
Applicants from non-engineering background are provided with additional points to ensure fair representation of students from other sources. The points of cultural diversity for each campus differ. Similarly, The IIMs give extra points to female / transgender candidates to encourage a fair representation of each gender. The gender diversity points for each campus vary.
Extra points (from 1-5) are given to candidates with work experience. For this purpose, the range is defined from the lowest to the highest. The points of work experience for each campus vary.
IIMs have been conferred with INI status in India. INI stands for Institute of National Importance which is given to a premier public higher education Institutions in India by a Parliamentary act when the Institution plays the role of a pivotal player in developing highly skilled personnel. IIMs fit this bill because they customise their own course and other related matters. For example, IIMs have 1 year PGPM courses tailored for Candidates with work experience. The first IIM was founded in the year 1961. Today as of 2019, the gender diversity ratio in the IIMs is at 30% giving equal and at times more importance to female candidates. IIMs were the first to introduce the concept of Gender Diversity. The prospects of being placed with a high package with the best in the Industry is what makes Candidates choose IIM as a destination college for pursuing MBA. The exposure that a Student gets during his/her tenure is unbeatable. IIMs prepare you for what is in store for you in your life ahead. With the kind of knowledge you are exposed to and the limited time that you have for yourself between presentations, assignments, discussions and studies, this is not your regular MBA in a regular college. Rather it prepares you for the always running corporate life. The courses are designed to meet diverse needs for management education. For example, IIM Indore has sent as many 25 faculty members to Harvard as a part of Participant Centered Learning Programme. IIM A is collaborating with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to combat corruption. IIM A had recently come up with a leadership program for the Ministers of the UP Government. Blending theory and practise, IIMs teach you communication, leadership, sustainability, spreadsheet modelling and Design thinking, Innovation and Entrepeneurial orientation. In short, this is something that you do not and cannot learn in every day of your life. Hence it is considered a once in a life time opportunity to get a seat and study in an IIM.
Hi Harsh,
I understand that you have either completed your course from IIM or are going to do the same and thus you are inquiring about the placements for the same and so to answer your question, the placement scenario varies from one IIM to the other but on an average it is around 16 to 20 lakhs per annum provided you have competence.
BEST WISHES!
Hello Ranjit,
No, candidates from other state are also eligible to get admission in other state. As 85% seats are reserved for local candidates which means that candidates holding domicile of a particular state can compete for 85% of seats.Whereas, candidates who doesn't hold domicile of a particular state but want to get admission in that state are non-local.And 15% seats are reserved for non-local.
So, you can seek admission in other states to.But the admission will be based on the merit secured.
I hope this is helpful to you.
