Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research MBBS Entrance Exam
Hello Raveendran
For MBBS, no chance, not at all. The ranks differ with respect to the two campuses. For the main campus i.e., JIPMER Pondicherry, the closing rank is 100±5 in UR CATEGORY.
Once the seats for Pondicherry are filled, many students start opting out as most suffer from insecurities of admitting themselves to a new campus like JIPMER Karaikal. As a result, closing rank for Karaikal drops down to 300s in UR CATEGORY.
Dear Surabhi,
JIPMER always conduct separate exam as AIIMS does and for getting admission, the students needs to qualify the JIPMER exam with good score and they don't admit on the basis of NEET results.
There is one more college beside JIPMER, PUDUCHERRY and that is JIPMER, KARAIKAL which was started by JIPMER from the academic session 2016-17 with yearly intake of 50 students and all total seats in JIPMER are 200. So, after counselling, either of the college is alloted to the qalified student based on JIPMER marks.
Hope this helps you.
Hi Manasa,
Well if the eligibility criteria states that the practical tests are required then they are required.
Eligibility criteria means the minimum requirements required from any candidate. Maybe your internal assessment is like pratical tests and if yes then you can show that.
I hope this information helps.
All the best.
Hi Archanaa,
NEET and JIPMER exams are quite easy, if you start early and manage your time well. NEET exam pattern is as follows,
Total number of questions = 360
Physics = 45
Chemsitry = 45
Biology = 90 (Botony = 45, Zoology = 45)
This is a 180 minutes exam. And the standard of the exam is quite easier than JIPMER exam.
1. Be thorough with the NCERT books. Cultivate the habit of reading the NCERT books line by line regularly.
2. For physics practice, you can go for HC Verma. This would be mandatory for Jipmer, but if you find the standards a bit high for NEET preparation, you can always go for better work books like GRB Objective Physics.
3. For Chemistry, concepts are very important, so I would suggest you to go for Modern's ABC of Chemistry.
4. Apart from this, keep practicing NEET previous year question papers.
On the other hand, JIPMER pattern is a bit different,
Total number of questions = 200
Biology = 60
Chemistry = 60
Physics = 60
English, Language and Comprehension = 10
Logical and Quantitative Reasoning = 10
This is a 150 minutes exam, and thus time management is very important.
The standards of this exam is quite high compared to NEET, and thus NCERT books would not be sufficient.
1. For physics, you can go for HC Verma and GRB Objective Physics. Or any other book for objective Physics, like 'Errorless'.
2. For Chemistry, stick on to Modern's ABC of Chemistry as it cover all the concepts in depth and for the organic part, make sure you practice a lot. MS Chauhan's Organic Chemistry would help.
3. For Biology, the best book you can go for is Trueman's Elementary Biology. It has in-depth theory.
Starting your preparation as early as possible is wise. Going through extra materials in the neck of the moment before the exams is not advisable. Also, stick on to fewer books and be confident in them. That would do wonders.
All The Best.
JIPMER exam is quite different from NEET, and needs more time management and in-depth knowlwdge.
The pattern of the exam goes like this,
Total number of marks and questions = 200
English language and Comprehension = 60
Logical and Quantitative Reasoning = 60
Each correct answer carries 1 mark and there is no negative marks for wrong answers.
The exam is for 150 minutes (2.5 hours) and thus needs a time-management.
The standard of the paper is quite high and needs in-depth knowledge. Thus, being thorough with the NCERT books is not enough for the exam.
Some of the best study materials are,
Begin your preparation early, as delayed start in preparation would make it even difficult.
The applications for the examination is of online mode, and would start around the first week of March every year and would extend till the mid of April.
Dear Adweta
The Merit Ranking is based on percentile score for each category and the minimum percentile should be 50 for UR/NRI/OCI, 45 for UR – PwD and 40 for SC / ST / OBC /-PwD.
Total number of questions in the JIPMER exam is 200 (60 questions each from PCB=180) (for English language, Logical & Quantitative Reasoning 10 question each=20). Each question carries 4 marks, which all total makes 800 marks.
For UR/OBC, the candidate should aim for minimum 760 marks out of 800 in order save position in any of the 74 (UR), 37 (OBC)seats.
Hope this’ll help you.
It is expected that the Institute shall announce the result for JIPMER MBBS 2019 entrance exam on or before June 21, 2019.

Hi Gautam,
As per your mentioned marks, it seems to diificult to get a seat in JIPMER. Considering the total number of seats per year in both pondicherry and karaikal branch and the level of competition is coming out to be a higher ratio and eventually the probability of obtaining a seat becomes less. Around 2 lakh students appear every year to compete for these 200 seats. Thus the probability goes very low.
My suggestion will be you have to score more to obtain a seat in jipmer or apply for neet and choose a best college from the list. You can also consider doing medicine in AFMS which is a renowned government body and doing medicine here has an higher value always.
