I presume your query is in reference to your previous question which I answered, see in IGNOU MEG explores more detailed study of English and American Literature along with Canadian/Australian/Indian English literature, the course structure also focuses on deep understanding of evolution of the language, its studies and covering various aspects of it, As your rightly said, there are four compulsory paper in first year which are British Poetry/Drama/Novel and Aspects of Language, and in second year also there is one compulsory paper that is Literary Criticism and Theory, you can choose any three amongst the following-
Dear student,
BA in English is an under graduate degree course of three years by the central universities. Whereas, English literature is vast set of epics, drama, plays, prose and poetry that let you peep into a particular genre or era of a century. In the BA you have to simply read, study all prose and poetry, but in literature you have to read deeply about the English language origin, history and development.
With BA English base you can teach up to middle school but with special English literature you can teach the PG students.
And more important an honours degree in English literature is a specialised degree in that particular subject. It is more intensive and more subject focussed.
So, I would suggest you to choose according to your interests and needs.
Hope it helps, good luck!
See if you have good base in the subject of KANNADA then you can obviously go for it as an optional subject. Always know that in order to save time its better to choose subjects which you have interest at as well as which you are skilled in. Thus if you feel you have enough skills in Kannada just go for it. This will increase you chance of selection.
Also as you are choosing it as a literature subject then I would say you should try to conquer good vocabulary and grammar. Its very crucial for UPSC that you should be able to express your notion fluently through your writing by using appropriate words and phrases so that they don't get bulky. So keep this in mind.
Some of the books preferred by UPSC ASPIRANTS are:

Yes there is a mutual connection between literature and myth or we can say the connection between literature and myth is one of mutual dependence. Even though literature cannot be reduced to myth and myth cannot be reduced to literature, neither of the two can exist on its own.Myth has always been “an integral element of literature”.
And considering the fact that the understanding of mythological elements that emerge in art conclusively requires their transformation in literary way where they become “readable” and for this literature emerges as the supreme tool for the readable mode of mythical stories. Thus, literature is not only orginated by, but also inventive for the communication of myth.
Of course, you will write the optional paper of Bengali Literature in bangla lanaguage only, this holds true for even other aspirants going for regional language as per their preference, for example if someone chooses Marathi then he or she needs to write the paper in that language only,
So, to answer your question yes, you can write the general studies paper, essay in English and the optionals paper in bangla if you choose bengali literature, there are two optional papers of 250 marks each, all the languages included in the optional paper are part of eight schedule of the constitution, and apart from this there are also two language papers which are qualifying by nature.
