can i do ophthalmology without any exam

Sajal Trivedi 20th Jun, 2022

Hello aspirant,

Ophthalmology is a medical specialty that has gotten a lot of attention in recent years. An ophthalmologist is a medical specialist who specialises in vision and eye care. Despite the fact that ophthalmology is a relatively new field of study, there are a plethora of ophthalmology courses available after 12th in India, with a diverse variety of career options for graduates.

For students interested in becoming doctors, the MBBS programme is a 5.5-year programme. All applicants must take the NEET UG exam. To become an ophthalmologist, you must first complete an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) programme, after which you must pursue an ophthalmology postgraduate degree, such as an MS (Master of Surgery) or an MD (Doctor of Medicine) (Doctor of Medicine).

Hi

You cannot get admission in  MS Ophthalmology on the basis of 12th/intermediate marks in Andhra medical college or any college.

MS Ophthalmology i. e Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology is a PG course.

To get admission in a medical college for MS ophthalmology, you need to first clear neet and do mbbs, then qualify pg entrance exams like neet pg and then on the basis of its rank, you can get admission in MS ophthalmology .

Here's in detail how you can get admission in MS Ophthalmology:-

-----------------------------) Appear in Neet examination

  • To be eligible one must pass 12th board examination with physics, chemistry ,biology/biotechnology and English and must have got at least  50  % in aggregate of PCB  i.e Physics, Chemistry and Biology /biotechnology in 12th examination  if belongs to general category , or   at least  40%  in aggregate of PCB if belongs to  Obc/ Sc /st category. Also, needs to be at least 17 years old as on 31st December of the year of appearing for neet. You can get complete eligibility criteria details at https://medicine.careers360.com/articles/neet-eligibility-criteria

  • General :- 50th Percentile

  • OBC:-  40th Percentile

  • SC :-40th Percentile

  • ST :-  40th percentile

To be on the safer side, out of 720 marks, target at least around 575 - 625 marks for state quota mbbs seats and 650 marks in neet for All india quota mbbs seats if you belong to general category to get a seat in a Government Medical College

-----------------------------------) Participate in neet counselling. There are 2 counsellings -

  • Mcc counselling :- It is conducted for 15% AIQ seats, 100% Deemed Universities seats, Central Universities  seats (Delhi University, AMU & BHU ), 100% ESIC seats , AFMC  seats (only Registration Part) & I.P University (VMMC & SJH AND ABVIMS & RML & ESIC Dental, Delhi ,100% AIIMS seats & 100% JIPMER seats

https://medicine.careers360.com/articles/neet-seat-allotment

-----------------------------------) Then you have to report to the college and get your documents verified.

-----------------------------------)  After document verification, finally you get admission in mbbs in college

----------------------------------)  Pursue your mbbs which is a 5.5 year long course in which the last 1 year consists of internship
