Sir I am a College Teacher in Zoology with NET/SET Qualified.Besides i am teaching immunology to final year students there.I want to pursue Phd in immunology at SKIMS srinagar.Am i eligible.?

theeanonymous 24th Dec, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

Yes , you can very well do PhD along with your teaching job. You will have better prospects and preference as you are a NET qualified candidate but try clearing NET JRF exam , because with JRF qualification you will get stipend . I assume , you are expecting to do PhD in another university and not where you are teaching. In that case you may have to get an NOC (no objection certificate) from your current college. It would be better to directly contact the department in SKIMS Srinagar and ask about the procedures and requirements to get a clear picture. Also think about whether you want to do a full-time or part-time PhD, and decide accordingly. If you are not able to do in the desired college , then you can easily do it in your current college , and it would be easier to manage. As you are already a faculty there, the college would also give you more preference. You may do the same at SKIMS Srinagar too, teaching and research , I suggest you to learn about TRF (teaching research fellowship ) and see whether it a possible option for you.

All the best.

Sir, my question is that in your view, which post can contribute more for the country, first is PhD and second is IAS from UPSC.

Arihant kapoor 14th Nov, 2020

Hello Aspirant

By doing PhD you can contribute by doing research in a particular area. Let's say if you are pursuing PhD in Commerce then you do research in the area related to particular subject. Your research can help only a small section of society related to your field of subject. So, you are helping and contributing towards society but only to a smaller sector.

Now, IAS is an civil servant who has more resources than a PhD scholar. Also, in a city or in society IAS is the one whose decisions has a direct impact on everyone's life. IAS has powers with which he/she can make a city crime free, makes city a better place to live. The administration of a city is in the hands of DM of city, who is an IAS. So, in comparison to PhD, IAs is the field which can contribute more for the country.

Hope this helps.

I am law graduate and I want to do PhD, so what is the procedure?

Abir Gayen 4th Nov, 2020
Hi Aspirant,
You are good to go if you are talking about PhD in law.You can easily apply if you have a postgraduate degree in law with above  55%grade or of candidates appearing in final exam are also welcome to apply but if you are talking about PhD in other subjects then it will create a big problem since it requires devotion to academic qualities and also a post graduate certificate of that very subject in initial degree.Plus a complete shift from what you will do and what you are doing will also create a problem. If you are pursuing law keep consistency ,success will strike your path.
All the best.
