Im from ece branch but i want to give gate exam in cse in gate 2021. Am i eligible for PSU recruitment if my BTech degree is from another branch????

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 16th Aug, 2020

hi,

see gate exam is the gate way exam to take admission in nits or iits or iiits or any other reputed college of India , even some of the abroad university consider gate score for admission for ms course. now In india you have two options after clearing gate score, you may either go for psu job or do mtech . now see for as for the past years recruitment records, most of the psu recruits for electrical, mechanical and electronics and communication engineering stream, as for the eligibility criteria for reputed psus for electronics engineers, candidate must have valid score in gate ece paper and have completed btech on ece stream, however in some interdisciplinary work profile cse/ece/ee all are allowed. so if you want to do job in psu you should appear in gate exam from ece stream since it has more recruitment than cs. as per the previous years records cse has less recruitment in gate exam, and for companies like iocl, ongc eligibility for cse is, candidates must complete btech in cse stream and must have valid gate score in cse.

so if psu job is your main concern then you should appear in gate from ece stream, other wise for mtech course cse would be fine.

As per your your question to get placement in PSU after completing civil engineering you have to qualify GATE exam with very good rank and after that according to the procedure of that particular PSU  you have to go through that all process of placement.

So the first condition is to to qualify with good rank in GATE. So the GATE is Graduate aptitude test in engineering. This is national level exam held by 7 top IITs and IISC Bangalore combinely. For more information about GATE exam you should go through below link in which all information about GATE is given.

Government and psu job ratio between ECE and EE branch????

LALIT 4th Aug, 2020

coming to ECE and EEE half of the syllabus is same and most of the subjects are considered as electrical core subjects like analog, digital electronics ,signals, networks etc.

Now coming to PSU jobs are more ~ 1000/year and for ECE even 200/year is difficult.(just for comparison) . Coming to central govt jobs are more in EEE very very less in ECE around ratio of 1:20/1: 50 and sometime there might be vacancies.

In short advantages EEE - more govt jobs, central jobs, core companies, psu’s , IES vacancies, state govt jobs, power plant jobs with moderate competition compare to ECE. Only advantage of ECE is moderate chances in every field (IT, Core, Govt, PSU, IES).

Government and psu job for ECE students as compared to EE students???

Hello Vinit,

Both Electronic and communication engineering (ECE) and Electrical engineering are best branches of engineering. They open up a large number of opportunities to build career.

In private sector, the scope of ECE is more than Electrical engineering. In contrast, the number of vacancies available to Electrical engineers is more than vacancies available for ECE engineers. ECE engineers have more prospects in the IT sector. Though this is almost same for Electrical but is lesser.

Now considering PSUs recruitment, Electrical Engineering has more prospects then ECE. Compared to ECE the number of vacancies arising for PSU is more for Electrical engineering than for ECE engineers( Just for comparison we can say if Electrical has 1000 vacancies then ECE qill have around 200 or 300. Although scope of ECE is rising it is less even now.

Are the PSU recruitments based on Gate scores benfecial for a computer science engineer?

Harshit 3rd Aug, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

Many PSU’s are there for CS graduate out of which my favorite is IOC and ONGC.

Starting package in mainstream psu is:-

  1. PGCIL - ~14 lpa.
  2. IOCL - 11.6 lpa (It has increased recently but i don’t know how much)
  3. ONGC - ~12.9 lpa
  4. GAIL - 10.6
  5. NTPC - ~10.4

And govt. organisations.

  1. BARC - 64000/Month consolidated
  2. ISRO/DRDO - around 10

And this will increase by around 30–40% after the PSU pay revision in 2019.
