If I passed step 2ck in India & how can get my Visa for step 2cs in USA? Is there any training before step 2cs exam?

aditi mishra 24th Feb, 2019

Dear Hiral,

You could apply for B1/B2 or J-1 visa. However since you have already cleared Step 2 CK J-1 could be more suitable for you.

If you want to apply for J-1 visa and you can read the following to think about your way forward.

Physicians who are foreign national physicians and who seek entry into U.S. programs of graduate medical education or training must obtain an appropriate visa that permits clinical training activities. International medical graduates who have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK can seek ECFMG J-1 visa sponsorship to enroll in graduate medical education programs.

The J-1, a temporary non-immigrant visa is a visa commonly used by foreign national physicians and is reserved for participants in the Exchange Visitor Program.

Since J-1 was established to enhance international educational and cultural exchange between the people of the United States and other nations by the U.S. Department of State, this visa would be appropriate for you. However please keep in mind that exchange visitor (J-1) physicians are required to return home for at least two years following their training before being eligible for certain U.S. visas, so please keep this in mind before making your decision.

ECFMG has been designated as the visa sponsor by the US department of State for all exchange visitor (J-1) physicians who participate in clinical training programs. This sponsorship is also available for physicians’ eligible dependents.

ECFMG is responsible for ensuring that exchange visitor (J-1) physicians and host institutions meet the federal requirements for participation throughout the duration of sponsorship. ECFMG does not sponsor physicians for other U.S. visa types.

All initial applicants are advised to check their sponsorship eligibility. Detailed, up-to-date information on J-1 visa sponsorship by ECFMG, can be found at www.ecfmg.org/evsp .

Further applicants are advised that sponsorship eligibility should not be presumed and cannot be determined until a complete review of an individual’s U.S. visa history has been conducted.

How to apply for abroad studies scholarship programs in oxford Or other university?

Srikanth Srikee 19th Feb, 2019
Hello aspirant
A recent survey found that students indicated high cost was the greatest deterrent to studying overseas followed by the lack of scholarship opportunities. However, with proper information and planning hopefully no student aspiring to go abroadwill face this predicament and compromise on their academic endeavors.

There are a number of scholarships offered by schools, universities and external agencies that can help make studying abroad affordable for Indians. Lets probe into the various options:

1. University Scholarships. One of the best sources of financial aid can be the college you attend. Universities provide aid through grants and scholarships which do not have to be repaid and can be offered based on need or merit.

For example:
Tata Scholarships at Cornell University There is US$25 million endowment from the Tata Education and Development Trust that supports around 20 Indian scholarsat Cornell. To be eligible, its necessary to first be accepted into an undergraduate course at Cornell, and then apply for need-based financial aid.
The British Council The British Council recently announced the single largest number of scholarships ever launched in a year in India, by offering around 370 scholarships worth almost 1 million pounds. There are 36 UK institutions participating in this program and scholarships will be offered for 260 undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

2. Current Learning Institutes. The institution you currently attendcould be a resource for financial aid. Its important to speak to your school and department heads to understand if any scholarships are available and what their admission criteria are. For example:
Davis United World Colleges Scholars Program- All graduates of UWC schools who gain admission on their own merits to selected U.S. colleges or universities qualify for need-based scholarship support through the program. The program currently supports over 2,700 scholars at 94 partner colleges and universities throughout the United States.

3. Community Organizations. It is quite common for community groups to encourage and support exceptional members in their academic endeavors. For example:
Mustard Seed Foundation (The Harvey Fellows Program) - Provides scholarships to Christian students who are pursuing graduate studies at premier universities in fields considered to be underrepresented by Christians and who possess a unique vision to impact society through their vocations.

4. Private Organizations. There are a number of trusts, foundations and private groups that look to aid exceptional candidates. The criterion varies depending on the ethos of the institution, but you will have to detail why you are the right candidate. For example:
RotaryGlobal Grant Scholarship Program - Supports international study at the graduate level and funds graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years. It is a partnership between the district / club in the study location and the district / club in the scholars home country. The minimum grant amount is US$30,000.
InlaksShivdasani Foundation Scholarships  Provides scholarships of up to US$100,000 for exceptional Indian students to study in North America or Europe. The scholarship covers tuition fees, adequate living expenses and one-way travel.Applicants must be under 30 and reside in India at the time of application.
NarotamSekhsaria Foundation - Awards interest-free loan scholarships to Indian students with a consistent andstrong academic record. The scholarship amount can be up to Rs. 20 lakhs and is awarded to students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies at prestigious Indian and international universities.

5. Government. The Indian Government, both individually and in collaboration, have launched scholarships to help finance proficient students looking to study outside of India. For example:
Government of Telangana Introduced the Overseas Study Scheme for Minorities for the benefit of the students belonging to minority community. Financial assistance will be sanctioned to 500 minority students/graduates per year to pursue Post Graduate/Doctoral studies abroad as per the guidelines.
Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships- The Master's Fellowships are designed for outstanding Indians residing in India to pursue a master's degree at selected U.S. colleges and universities. Selected fellows have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree, have at least three years of work experience, and are committed to return and contribute to their communities.
There are a number of resources Indian applicants can utilize to fund their study abroad. Its imperative you do your research, connect with targeted colleges, probe into Government schemes, reach out to external agencies and speak to successful students. Start early and thoroughly explore all the options available before making your final decision.

Hope this information is helpful

How far is such a political Safeguard justified?

Unnati 30th Jan, 2019

Hello,

The democratic setup of our government requires that it recognizes and adequately represents the voices of minorities as well as the majority of the population, in order to ensure this, certain political safeguards have been provided via constitutional and extra-constitutional methods.

The justification of such safeguards hinges on the question of whether the assurances of common rights meant for all the citizens is sufficient or is there requirement of such safeguards, in addition, to such rights. While certain rights are applicable to all Indian citizens, there are safeguards that apply to certain communities only, in order to ensure that minority representation in all sectors of Indian life and development does not remain abysmally low. The inter-relationship between diversity and political safeguards has been integral to India's political architecture for decades which goes on to prove the need for such safeguards.

The above answer has been provided on the assumption that question refers to political safeguards for minorities and not for federalism.

Hope this helps you out, feel free to reach out for more information.

Best wishes.

If you are applying for a UG program then you might want to give SAT or ACT, whereas for PG programs the exam you may need to give could be GRE or GMAT. For both levels of education, candidates also need to appear for English language proficiency tests like IELTS, TOEFL or PTE.

It is better to do BE civil in Indian Colleges or in Canadian colleges?pls answer me

Anonymous 1st Feb, 2019

If finance is not an issue and you are getting admission in top canadian universities such as University of Toronto, then it's better to do bachelor's from a top canadian university rather than in a private indian college. Not only better education standards but the research and job opportunities are way better than those of private Indian colleges.

What is meant by Political Safeguard? Who are the benificiaries of this policy? How far is such a safeguard justified?

Asiya 11th Feb, 2019

What is a political safeguard?

A political safeguard or constitutional guarantees is the protection provided by the government to the people they govern. The function of the state is to essentially protect the rights of the individuals. For this purpose, certain provisions have been enshrined in the constitution that is judicially enforceable. If we take the case of India, protecting the rights of the minorities has been a pressing issue that was confronted by the constituent assembly while drafting the constitution. Tackling the minority issue was made one of the objectives while creating the constitution for future reference. Jawaharlal Nehru state that the constitution will guarantee equality of opportunities, social, economic and political justice, freedom of speech, belief, faith etc. and safeguards for backward and tribal classes who were oppressed. This resolution was later reflected in the preamble of the constitution.

Who are the beneficiaries of this?

The beneficiaries of different political safeguards or guarantees would depend on the objective of each legislation. Lawmakers intend to protect the rights of certain sections of the society when they come up with legislation. However, political safeguards are for the benefit of the public at large and for the greater good. The “Scheduled cast and tribes (prevention of atrocities) act”, 1989 which is now popularly known as the SC/ST Act was enacted to prevent the atrocities that were committed against the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. Here the people belonging to this caste will be the beneficiary to this act. Going back to the example of minorities in India, the problem can be traced back to the advent of colonialism and partition. The Muslim minority were under greater threat after the formation of Pakistan. But there were other minorities as well, like the Parsis, Anglo-Indians, Sikhs, Scheduled castes etc. These minorities along with their representatives exerted pressure to attain categorical constitutional safeguards.

The beneficiaries of political safeguards can be both the citizens in general and a certain section of society. For example, the Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Indian constitution from article 12 to 35 are the rights guaranteed to all the citizens. On the other hand, there are legislations such as the “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012” is aimed at protecting children and for giving them a remedy against sexual abuse.

How far is such a safeguard justified?

Even though the constitution provides everybody with equal rights, not everybody gets the opportunity to enjoy them. Ergo, political safeguards are basically for providing equality of opportunities. There are certain sections of the society who need that extra support from the government to be at par with the rest of society. Only then will they get equal life chances. For example, somebody from a backward community without sufficient resources cannot be out on equal footing as somebody from an affluent section of the society. In such a situation provisions like reservation would help them. Political safeguards can be seen as a differential treatment but for the ultimate goal of providing equality.
