Physics
For PhD: M.Sc./M.S. in Physics, or equivalent, on completion of Programs(s) of duration not less than 5 years in total
For I-PhD:
M.E./M.Tech./B.Sc./B.S./B.E./ B.Tech./B.Chem. in Physics, Engineering Physics, or equivalent degree, on completion of Program(s) of duration not less than 3 years in total; any other degree in Science/Engineering/Medicine, or equivalent, on completion of Program(s) of duration not less than 3 years in total

I-PhD candidates with not less than four or more years of university education who clear the written test may be considered by TCIS for their PhD Program

Fellowship
For PhD & I-PhD Programs, the academic year starts from August 1, every year. The academic year for M.Sc. Program begins from July 1, every year
PhD Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 25,000/- (enhanced to Rs 28,000/- after registration)
I-PhD Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 16000/- for the first year. At the end of the first year, upon satisfactory performance, the fellowship is enhanced to Rs 25000/- per month (further raised to Rs 28,000/- after registration for PhD)
M.Sc. (Biology) Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 16000/-
M.Sc.(Wildlife Biology & Conservation) Students receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 12000/-

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is India's premier institution for advanced research in fundamental sciences. The Institute runs a graduate programme leading to the award of Ph.D., Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. as well as M.Sc. degree in certain subjects. You'll have to do your undergraduate from somewhere else and for postgraduate you can apply to TIFR.

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai offers a variety of integrated and PhD programmes. Aspiring candidates can pursue integrated M.Sc-PhD or only PhD programmes in Science Education along with ohter PGD Courses. Admissions to Integrated M.Sc-PhD course is taken through the GS exam in the 2nd week of December. Candidates should have a graduation in the relevant field to its specialisation.

Admission Procedure
The admissions procedure (in all subjects, except Science Education) consists of an online test at one of the several nationwide centres, followed by interviews of shortlisted candidates.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be held during end-February to early-April, 2019. Exact dates would be announced later.
Results of the entrance examination will be announced on January 10, 2019 and students shortlisted for interview will be intimated by email.
Biology:
The TIFR Nationwide Entrance Examination (GS2019) for Biology is also called the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS). See http://www.ncbs.res.in/JGEEBILS.
All participating institutions use the result from this examination as a part of their admission process. Students need to apply separately to each JGEEBILS participating institution.
ADDITIONAL MODE OF ADMISSIONS (BEYOND GS2019) :
SYSTEMS SCIENCE :
GATE score based applications in Systems Science (including Communications and Applied Probability):
Engineering students with exceptional performance in GATE examination of 2017-2019in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Mathematics may apply for the Ph.D. program without appearing for the TIFR Entrance Test. The link for GATE score based applications will be made available on our website on February 5, 2019.
Last date for applying will be two weeks after the GATE 2019 results are displayed on their website.
In case a student takes the Systems Science TIFR Entrance Test and also submits a GATE score based application, the better of the two performances will be considered.
BIOLOGY :
GATE score based applications in Ecology and Evolution : Students with exceptional performance in GATE examination of 2017-2019 in Ecology and Evolution may apply for the Ph.D. program in Biology at the National Centre for Biological Sciences without appearing for the TIFR Entrance Test. The link for GATE score based applications will be made available on the NCBS website on February 5, 2019.
GATE/JEST/NET exam scores for Physics, Biology and Chemistry:
In addition to the admissions through the nationwide examination in December, some admissions in Physics, Biology and Chemistry based on GATE / NET / JEST scores in the relevant subjects are also possible. Details of these admission procedures will be available on the websites of TIFR-Mumbai, NCRA-Pune, NCBS-Bengaluru, ICTS-Bengaluru and TCIS-Hyderabad, separately at appropriate times.
