priyaankasarkar Student Expert 19th Aug, 2020

Kajal, with UPSC being one of the top notch recruitment exams in India, no doubt everyone's interest lies in UPSC. But to  be eligible for UPSC, you need to complete your Graduation and so first set that as a goal. And with IT as your specialisation, it is absolutely fine to prepare for UPSC. The beauty of UPSC is it doesn't define a particular stream as its elgibility criteria. A graduate in any stream can appear for UPSC. Now your IT will come handy in Mains which is the 2nd level of exam. To give you a glimpse,

UPSC is a 3 stage   selection process involving Prelims, Mains and Interview which tests your personality test. Prelims has 2 Papers namely General Studies and CSAT.

General Studies has Current Events, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change and General Science.

CSAT has Comprehension, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical Reasoning and Analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General Mental Ability, Basic numeracy and Data Interpretation.

So your IT knowledge can come handy to select an Optional subject. So do not worry abou that.

You will need atleast to start preparing ahead of 1- 2 years. If you are preparing at home, you need to keep yourself away from distractions and focus on the goal ahead. Gather as much as information as you can on each topic and keep yourself updated. Practise mock test papers.

after 10th ,which subjects take to easy to prepare IAS ,, UPSC exam

pdwords Student Expert 11th Aug, 2020
Hello,

There are two ways to decide your career path regarding your query, if you're completely focused towards only cracking Civil Service Exams, then choosing humanities stream will give an edge undoubtedly, as UPSC is more humanities oriented, so you may choose to pursue graduation in political science, public administration, law, economics, geography, history etc. Another thing is to have a back up plan regarding this, you have to remember that right now you're only in class 10th, so there's lot to explore for you in terms of your skillsets, aptitude, interest areas, if you have any preference for other streams such as engineering or medical, then it even after pursuing these fields you can appear for UPSC, for example many engineering/medical or for that matter any other working professional they gain few experiences in their respective field and then apply for UPSC, and let me tell you one thing very honestly, the success of UPSC is dependent entirely on the dedication, planning, preparation of the candidates, yes we may argue humanities candidates are well acquainted with the subjects unlike in case of say science or other field students, but then they do the work from the scratch, and if you have single-minded focus, determination and perseverance, you'll sail through this no matter what stream you belong, what subject combinations you've at 10+2 or graduation level, so think through this all and then take a decision with clear mindset.

I am an average student can I do bba llb with side by side for upsc exam or can I opt btech cs and do my upsc exam .I dont have interest in mathematics especially for college in Bangalore

Garvit gaud 11th Aug, 2020

Hello aspirant,

It does not matter that if you are a average or an excellent student, it depends on you how much you focus on your goals. Now if we talk about the courses both options are good to do. But if you don't like mathematics then I think you should not opt for betch cs. Because mathematics matters a lot when you enter in any engineering degree. I think BBA LLB is a very good option because LLB and upsc include same type of knowledge that will help you to crack the exams and interview.

I hope this information will help you.

Please feel free to ask

upsc exam includes maths ot whether it is important

pdwords Student Expert 11th Aug, 2020
Hello,

Maths is there only in the prelims exam, and that also part of qualifying paper CSAT for which syllabus consists of basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills. So, CSAT paper is a mix of Reasoning, Maths, and RCs, maths here is of basic level only which we all have studied, you can use NCERTs books for your conceptual understanding, some of the other best options are M Tyra Quicker Maths, RK Agarwal's Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Exam, Arihant Objective Mathematics. Prelims is all about speed coupled with knowledge, hence in this section what matters the most is practice, practice and practice, many of the aspirants who have great conceptual understanding don't go for such detailed study, what they usually do is apply many mock papers before the exam, but this case may not work for someone whose foundation isn't strong, so you have to see what works for you, other than prelims CSAT paper, maths doesn't have much importance in UPSC as it's more humanities oriented unless you take it as an optional subject.

I am in class 11th and i have opted for humanities. i want to clear clat first and then compete the upsc exam , please tell me the right path

shivangi shukla 7th Aug, 2020

Hey aspirant

If you wish to give CLAT then you can take BA/LLB or BBA/LLB then after graduation you can appear for upsc . UPSC basic criteria includes graduation  degree in any discipline from any recognized University. Candidate must be more than 21 years of age and the upper age limit is 32 years for general candidates. Therefore as per your interest you can do graduation in law and then give upsc after completing your graduation.

Thankyou

which graduation course is benificial for upsc exam i think BA is best but i totally confused to what sub i choose in BA hon . because i am a science student so dont have any information about this

pdwords Student Expert 5th Aug, 2020
Hello,

First of all, in order to appear for UPSC, you need to be 21 years old and should have completed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, you can also apply in the final year and there's no specific aggregate required for this. Now, coming to your questions, even through UPSCA is more humanities oriented and people from these backgrounds have an added advantage of being acquainted with the syllabus unlike in case of students belonging to other streams such as science or commerce, but this in no way act as a deterrent for instance if we see previous year trends of toppers people from diverse backgrounds succeed in this exam, including engineering and doctors, as this is no surprises because they have put in equal efforts, hence if you have any other aspirations, you can go ahead with that also, many people also gain work experiences in their respective fields before attempting for UPSC, also  it's good to have a back up plan,
if you fully focused and committed towards only cracking UPSC, you can go for graduation in art disciplines such as political science, public administration,  geography, economics, history etc.

in upsc exam the syllabus given officially is enough to prepare or we want to read all topics.

pdwords Student Expert 31st Jul, 2020
Hello,

The syllabus of UPSC is very vast, so in order to prepare for this exam, you need to be thorough with it, this is extremely important, along with this there are few important things to do such as make your foundation strong by going through NCERTs book first and then move towards standard books and keep resources minimal, revise time and again. You have to go through previous year question in order to understand the type of questions that are asked, and definitely the importance of reading newspaper on a daily basis cannot be rule out ever.

In recent years, UPSC has also framed prelims questions based on Mains Syllabus,so having an integrated approach is important from the start. Whatever questions UPSC frame is in some way or the other related to its syllabus, hence the importance of learning it by heart. Also, in two years of your preparation, you'll read so much, that you'll eventually develop conceptual understanding of the subjects which matters in UPSC, and you'll end up writing something in your answer sheet in mains for questions that may seem unknown,UPSC doesn't expect anyone to be an expert at anything, this itself explains the reason why so many people who haven't done very well in school or college, made it to the final list.
