Mayank Chowdhary 26th Aug, 2020

Hello,

Different people use different approaches to prepare for UPSC and even you haven't mentioned your stream. Anyway i will give your more practical approach which is that you can start reading newspaper ans current affairs, start reading GK, if you are from Educational background having history and economics as your subject then it is good if not then start studying it. Daily provide some time to your entrance exam study. Make notes and also start preparing your notes. Start giving mock tests too and all the best

can preparing for upsc help me for other govt exams also like CAT,bank ,etc?

Rayan Rego 26th Aug, 2020

See the UPSC syllabus consists predominantly of :

  • History .
  • Geography .
  • Political Science / Civics.
  • Economics.
  • General Science - Physics, Chemistry & Biology.
  • Environmental Science.
  • Sociology.
And the exams like CAT/ bank exams :
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Data interpretation and logical Reasoning

Here you see none of the syllabus match

Hence if you are studying for UPSC then study for that only. Don't divert your minds towards other bank exams .

Thank you

Can preparing for UPSC help in all the govt exams after graduation?

Rama Devi 26th Aug, 2020

Hello,

SPSC exam will be helpful with UPSC. You can even prepare for IBPS bank examination as a backup when studying for the UPSC test. It's a job at the government. For bank exams You should also  have knowledge of quantitative aptitude, reasoning, English and general awareness. SSC CGL can also be considered as an option when planning for UPSC. SSC CGL is basically a common graduate level examination by the Staff Selection Commission. The Railway recruitment board (RRB) also performs vacancies in the different departments for examination and publication. These are some options you can use as a backup for UPSC. And Remember there is not much overlapping of syllabus. So if you are interested to appear for more than one exam, then it all depends on your dedication and capabilities.

pdwords Student Expert 25th Aug, 2020
Hello,

In order to appear for UPSC, you need to pass Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognized University, there's no specific aggregate required in this case, you can apply even in the final year, you need to be 21years old.

UPSC Civil Service Exam consists of three stages-

Preliminary
Mains
Interview

To give you a brief about the exam;

Preliminary consists of 200 Marks for each paper in MCQs format,
you just need to score the required cut offs against your category in first paper, overall its numbers aren't added in the final list.

It mainly consists of GS Paper-I with topics such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty, inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change. you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.

And then we have qualifying CSAT(you need to score 33%, only 66 marks out of 200) which includes topics such as basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills.

Coming to Mains it's more of a subjective type, one needs to write answer for Four General Studies Paper such as

GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society,
GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,
GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,
GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude

In addition to four GS Papers, there are two optionals, one essay, two language paper, there are total nine papers here. 250 marks for each paper, total is 1750 marks followed by Personality Test of 275 marks.

Hello,

Anyhow you will be pursuing engineering, so why not from one of the most reputed colleges. You have chances of getting a seat in top GFTIs in top branches, if you are UPSC aspirant then you can consider engineering as an backup plan, and that too from a good college. You can refer this for last years cutoff for GFTIs.

iam a science student i completed my 2nd puc and got 69.18%(70%) i would like to become IAS officer plz suggest me which degree is very benifit to me to appere in UPSC examination ( santosh kumar) plz help me

Akram Khan 22nd Aug, 2020

Hi,

With any degree you can appear cor the IAS exam. As the eligibility to appear for IAS exam is candidate should have degree from any recognized university.

However if you want to select a degree course which will help you in preparation of the IAS exam also. You can select courses which have the same syllabus as that of civil services exam. Some of the such courses are -

B.A - English literature or other language (as the pre and mains syllabus includes languages also)

B.A political science

B.A history

B.A sociology

B.A geography

Bachelors in mass communication and journalism

B.Com

These are the courses which can help you. However infact there is no specific degree as the syllabus of civil services is broad whatever degree you get you will have some use of it in your preparation. So choose that degree course which you like to study. And sidwise focus in the preparation of civil services sticking to the syllabus.

Hope it helps.
