Is this is truth that UPSC selects elite students and from wealthy background... Also backward category students get less marks in interviews? What Your opinion please comment?

Prachi Kumari 27th Aug, 2025

Hello,

No, this is not true. UPSC does not select candidates based on wealth, background or family status. The exam is the same for everyone.

UPSC follows a strict and transparent process. Candidates are selected only on the basis of merit. The interview board checks personality, confidence, communication and awareness, not caste or money.

Many toppers come from middle class, rural and backward backgrounds every year. Also, interview marks vary for all categories. Backward category candidates do not get fewer marks just because of their category.

So, it is a myth that UPSC favours only elite or wealthy students. Hard work and preparation matter the most.

Yes, with an SC rank of 2420 you have a very good chance of getting Kalyani Government Engineering College.

In 2024, the SC category closing rank for CSE was around 7481, for IT around 10944, for ECE around 11447, for EE around 12669 and for ME around 14487. Since your rank is much better than these cut-offs, you can get admission in KGEC in branches like CSE, IT, ECE, EE or ME.

My Son WBJEE general rank 91289 and EWS GENERAL rank 3259 can I get any government college for B Tech CSC course?

Babita Rawat 27th Aug, 2025

Hii

With your son's WBJEE EWS rank of 3,259, getting government college for B.Tech CSE is likely to be difficult but not impossible for sure. Some top colleges such like Jadavpur University are out of reach and also most of the government colleges have last round EWS closing rank around 3,000 to 3,500, so he have chances to get a seat in government college but in a lower tier if vacancies remain. And about his general rank that is too high for general seats it means there are nil chances to get seat through general rank of him.

My School is denied to give me passed TC, i passed 10th as a private candidate. What should I do?

Prachi Kumari 27th Aug, 2025

Hello,

If you passed Class 10 as a private candidate, the school is not allowed to give you a Transfer Certificate (TC) because you were not their regular student.

In this case, you will not get TC from the school. Instead, you can use your Class 10 marksheet, passing certificate, and migration certificate (if required) for admission to the next class.

If the new school asks for TC, explain that you were a private candidate and provide your board documents. That will be accepted.

In general, fees for BSc Agriculture courses in government colleges range roughly from INR 15,000 to INR 1,00,000 per annum, making them quite affordable compared to private colleges.

Private agricultural colleges in and around Vijayapur may charge anywhere from INR 20,000 up to 3 lakhs per year depending on facilities and reputation. (https://globaleducational.net/bsc-agriculture-fees/) (https://globaleducational.net/bsc-agriculture-fees/)

So, for a good government college in Vijayapur, expect fees around 60k-70k annually, while private colleges could be higher based on amenities and management quota.

Hello,

With your SC rank 1411, you have very good chances.

  • At Jadavpur University , you can get B.Pharm easily. You also have chances for CSE and IT , as your rank is close to last year’s cutoffs.

  • At KGEC , you can definitely get CSE or IT , as the cutoff goes much higher for SC category.

So yes, you are likely to get B.Pharm in Jadavpur and also CSE/IT in Jadavpur or KGEC in 2025.
