Pharma is a very diverse field and if you want to join R&D Mpharm,Btech (Chemical engineering) .Yes there are eligible too.

I am asuming that you are a fresher and my answer will be more skewed towards Indian scenario

In India majority of the companies are generic industries and very few companies are innovations so Mpharm or chemical engineering is a must to enter Industry and coming to various specialisations i would brief you the best of the lot

1.Having a Mpharm in pharmaceutics from a reputed institute will boost your chances 2x to enter pharma industry (efficient placement team and powerful Alumni are prerequisite) and they are like master of all arts in pharmacy (RA,QA,Patents,Bio name any dept they will be competent)

2.Having a Mpharm in analysis is also helpful but you should compromise with package for the initial 3 years but analytical guys have ample number of openings throughout the country and they should also compete with MSC chemistry people

3. Pharmacology people have a great scope in innovator companies like NEKTAR in the areas of toxicology and bio pharmaceutics in companies like SUN and Dr.Reddys's lab

4.Chemical engineers and Mpharm chemistry have a great number of opportunities in API R&D area

These are the major specialisations th at would help any person to join R&D in pharma industry
