Established in 1974, Assam University is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament by the Government of India. It has two campuses located in Silchar and Diphu. The University offers 70 courses in multiple specialisations at UG, PG, doctoral and diploma level. The programmes offered are majorly in the streams of Engineering, Arts, Social Science, Commerce and many more. Assam University is NAAC accredited with Grade ‘B’ and was ranked 97 th among the top universities in India by NIRF in 2019.
