Assam University, Silchar is a central government University which was established in 1994 after the enactment of the Assam(Central) University Act of 1989. This university has always been in the pursuit of perfection in education, and it is certainly visible on the various courses they offer. It is well on its way to be deemed as an 'Institute of Excellence'. The campus is spread over 600 acres and provides an ideal environment for its researchers, students, and staff. The university has secured 93rd in the university category in NIRF 2021 ranking with a score of 39.21/100.

Assam University is located in Silchar, Hailakandi road which is on the outskirts of Silchar, which is approximately 23 km away from the city of Silchar. Students can reach the campus by various means of transport. By air, the nearest airport to the university is the Kumbhirgram airport, which is 45 km away from the campus. From the airport, to reach the campus, one can get a taxi which will take around 1 hour 30 minutes to reach the campus. Students can also travel by auto from Silchar directly to the university campus. Those travelling by train, the Silchar railway station is located 20 km away. Students can reach the campus in 45 minutes from the railway station.

• NSS: National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Youth Program, established under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The university is well-equipped with various infrastructural facilities to cater to the needs of its students and staff. The university offers a hostel for accommodation, a library for academic purposes, and various computer centres for students and staff. • Central Library: The university offers a central library that is equipped with books and journals from across the world. Various well-known research publications and e-journals are also offered for reference purposes in the library. • Hostel: At present, there are nine hostels in the University campus which offers separate accommodation for boys and girls. There are four hostels for boys and five for girls, students with approximately 749 single and shared room accommodation. Each hostel is furnished with basic facilities such as WIFI connection, bed, chair, and mess service is provided to students for breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner. Interested students can acquire information for the hostel accommodation when applying for college.
• Computer Centre: The university provides computer or ICT facilities to students and staff. Students pursuing technology and engineering courses can have full access to IT facilities in the university. The latest software facility with connection to Wi-Fi is provided in the computer centre. Any student can have access to the computer centre as per their needs.
• Health Care Centre: The University Health Centre is managed by experienced personnel, including lady medical officers who are supported by paramedical staff. They cater to the health care needs of students and staff. The university has also introduced medical insurance for each student. Health camps are frequently organized in the campus with specialist doctors from Silchar Medical College. In case of a health emergency, ambulance service is provided to transfer patents to Silchar Medical College, which is around 10 km from the campus.

Assam University, Silchar Admissions

The admission process for Assam University, Silchar takes place both online and offline. For admissions into various courses offered in the university, candidates are selected based on merit or entrance exam rankings/scores depending on the subject course degree. For admissions into MBA, CAT exam scores are required, and admissions to BTech requires JEE Main scores, whereas, for MTech, GATE examination scores are required by the university.

The university doesn't offer many scholarship opportunities to students, but students can still avail various state and central scholarships from outside the college while pursuing the course. Students belonging to SC/ST category could apply for central scholarships if they met the eligibility criteria of their annual family income below Rs. 4.5 lakhs.

Apart from this, students belonging to any category with good performance in academics can apply for merit scholarships from state or central government scholarship. PhD and various postgraduate course degree students can also avail for Research and Fellowship scholarships.
