170 in your practice test is a decent score. In 2017 the JEE mains qualifying marks for advanced was 81 marks, considering that, your practice score sounds good. Since CBSE hasnt released the marks vs ranks data, will not be able to pinpoint exact marks but you may certainly have a look at the cut-off ranks of JEE mains here

Remember cut-offs vary from branch to branch and also between the various NITs.



Also, if you are able to score 170 in practice you can always better it by making a schedule for your everyday preparation. Ensure you stick to it and practice as many sample papers and previous years papers as possible. Know your fundamentals well. And most importantly,  dont forget to take short breaks once in a while in between studies.

I would say you need more practice as it is very important to get a good grip on your preparation so work hard on that and then you can easily crack the exam with flying colors.

Apart from this, I am providing few general tips which you can follow as these would be helping you -

1. Know the syllabus very well.
2. Read standard books only as there are many books available in the market so it is advisable to use the books which make all your concepts clear and which are easy to understand.
3. Understand the weightage of topics properly.
4. Proper Revision plan should be followed.

5. As the accuracy level of physics is little less so it is advisable to revise all the important concepts properly. Solve IIT JEE practice questions on regular basis. Mark the questions you find difficult to solve and revise them regularly. Also,  Once you have finished the complete syllabus, take full-length IIT JEE mock tests, check test analysis report and start working on your weak area as this will help you to learn time management skills and this will also make you familiar with the exam pattern as well.

Also, if you wish to get seat in top NITs and in top branches like CS,ME,ECE,EE etc then try to get 230-270 as this would be the safest score to reserve seat there.

What I'm telling is you're just asking us whether you can get into NIT or not.  Basically,  it depends upon you and your dedication.  Always remember that practice makes sense and what I'm telling is if you get to know the standard books and you honestly motivation.  You can definitely crack that NIT Surat. For physics,  concepts of physics is good one and RD SHARMA book will bell you to get those percentage in maths.  Chemistry is like the by heart one if you accept it or not just revise as much as you can, the formulaes and concepts in chemistry.
