Yeah surely you will change your department after 1st year in VIT but that also require some criteria :

• 80% or 8.5 CGPA in your 1st year (Both semester)
• No arrear/back history in any subject.
• Availability of seats in that branch where you have to change.
• Proper and appropriate reason for shifting the branch

  If all these criteria will satisfy then they will allow you to change your branch.
