Yes. The general visa allows you to arrive and stay in the UK before your course starts. If your course lasts for 6 months or less you can arrive up to 1 week in advance, and 1 month in advance, in case of if your course lasts more than 6 months. This may also vary from course to course. Some courses may allow you an easy route to pursue post-study work in UK, others may have some restrictions and conditions.
