Dear Shruthi, am guessing you meant if the selection is not based on CAT score. Well, IIMs are Indian Version of Ivy Leagues. I want to cite an example for you. I do not know if you came across the book," How Opal Mehta got kissed, wild and got a life." In short, this is the Story of a young and meritorious student whose life ambition is only to get into Harvard University. But her application is turned down for the first time inspite of her commendable academic records. The reason being she had no life outside studies. If you are wondering how is it important in this context, IIMs do need Candidates who have Academic diversity and have achieved something different than the rest of the Candidate pool. They strongly believe that a mere CAT score cannot determine a Candidate's strength. The Student might have had a bad day and his score might not have been upto the mark. But his academic profile would have been brilliant. Now that would be an injustice to the Candidate to not shortlist him based on one entrance examination. Hence, CAT score alone is not considered but a Candidate's academic profile, spontaneity that he shows in Group discussion and presence of mind that he shows in Interview and the diversity factor that he brings to the table are also considered.

Shruti, DU MBA admissions are based on "Best of Four" subject for merit based programmes while CAT is considered for the rest of the programmes. Please go through this article for more and clear information: https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/du-mba-admission

Hello Aspirant,

In many of the colleges CAT score is considered for allocation of MBA seats. Some of the colleges conduct their own entrance examination for allotting MBA seats but they will surely consider certain percentage of CAT score you obtained. To get admission for MBA in any college across India you will have to appear for CAT and obtain a minimum marks in it.

Good luck!
