CAT or MAT is not mandatory. But almost all the colleges accept CAT/MAT. There are various other exams also - XAT, SNAP,IIFT, CMAT etc

Good Afternoon, If you want to do MBA from a very good College then you will surely have to write CAT or MAT. Good Colleges accept admission only on the basis of Percentile scored by a student in CAT or MAT.
However, if you just want to do MBA for namesake then you can go for any PG college and pursue the same without the need of writing CAT or MAT.

Giving an entrance exam like CAT or MAT always gives you an edge as you can get into far better colleges which will offer you great career prospects, better than the colleges that take direct admission without any exams. Having said that it is up to you as giving an entrance exam like CAT or MAT is not a compulsion to do MBA.
