Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs) and Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) usually open applications for summer projects in and around February or March.
In general, you can follow the following steps to secure an internship in the above mentioned universities:
1. Browse the official websites of the mentioned institutes.
2. Browse the profiles of faculty members. Read about the work the professors do. Shortlist the professors whose areas of interest align with yours.
3. Mail the concerned professor about your interest. Attach your CV alongwith in the mail. Ask them about opportunity to work in their laboratory/project.

Usually, professors do reply and clear your queries regarding the internship.
