First of all you should note that you can never predict you chances in this years counselling based upon last year's cutoff's as there is not set pattern  for opening and closing ranks. Talking about checking ranks so here you should note that the opening and closing ranks are mentioned on basis of categories in both josaa and csab portal so check accordingly like if you are checking ranks for a branch then under the OPEN CATEGORY you will have to check you crl  rank while in case of any category like obc then you will have to check your category rank.
