I am not sure what you mean by “scope” here , But if I had to motivate you for GATE, the first thing I would say is “return on investment”. See, if you manage to get a very good GATE rank (enough for old IITs) , not only is it financially balanced( as you save some amount from stipend even after paying sem fees) ,but you are guaranteed to get a much more high paying job than in your bachelor's (excluding rare cases). So overall, it would be worth doing as a 2 year wait for a quality product based job is better than struggling in the service based sector . Moreover even if you don't make it to the IITs or PSU, believe me, the concepts you learn during GATE prep will definitely help you in your interviews for better job opportunities.

Overall , it's definitely worth it.
