You can appear for GATE exam in your final year or after completing your graduation.

Below is the eligibility criteria of the exam

-You must have completed or must be in your final year of Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or Post-graduate (M.Sc.) degree in any relevant science subject.

-There is no minimum pass percentage in the qualifying degree while applying for GATE

-There is no age limit for GATE applicants.

First of all, you cannot fill up Gate application form in your third year as candidate has to be either in final year or should be a pass out. Also, there is no such limits in attempt as student can apply end number of times for Gate.
