Ranking during examination on competitive levels depends upon various factors like students preparation, questions they receive as different questions are set in batches, level and quality of questions, average student quality in each shift i.e. if a shift gets a group of good quality students and even if the paper is tough, if they are able to solve to them the marks along with percentile will get higher thus raising the cutoffs.

If you want to secure rank under 5000, you have to receive a percentile of 99.5 percentile and a marks of 230+ approximately depending on various situations.
