For admission to vit , authors have divided candidates into different categories based on ranks in vitmee . Fees is different for different categories.  

Category 1 rank - 1 to 20,000

Category 2 rank - 20,001 to 40,000

Category 3 rank - 40,001 to 65,000

Category 4 rank - 65,001 to 99,999

Category 5 rank- from 1 lakh . 

The fees keep in increasing with each category as per VIT admission rules.
So you will definitely get category 1 in vit vellore or chennai .
