It's depend upon you whether you want to do engineering or not. If are intreasted then you have to become a part of JEE Mains by filling it's form inorder to get enter in elite institutes. At the time of 12th there  are also other options left with you like NFIT , FDDI , NEET and many other entrance examination.

Yes, if you're currently in class 12th and if you're interested in engineering field then you should appear for jee mains engineering entrance exam to get admission oin NITs or IIITs or many other top colleges.

Hey dear yes you have to clear mains first as of now forms aren’t out yet for upcoming year so kindly wait for same they will be released in and around January.
