Correct Answer: 1961

Solution : The correct answer is 1961.

On July 1, 1961, the Dowry Prohibition Act was passed to outlaw the giving and receiving of dowries. As defined by the Dowry Prohibition Act, a "dowry" is any valuable security or property provided or agreed to be delivered, whether directly or indirectly. People in India of all religious backgrounds are subject to the Dowry Prohibition Act. Law breakers are punished with five years in prison and a fine of Rs. fifteen thousand or the whole amount of the dowry, whichever is higher.
