Is it a good step to take a gap of 1 year for the preparation of JEE MAINS,if i have a score less than my expectations?

Sure. Go Ahead and take a break. The thing is this time you have to make it count. If you fail to deliver the goods this time, too, then that is where the problem is. If you have complete faith in yourself and know that you will put in the effort with consistency for one complete year without losing sight of your objective, I suggest you give it a try. Then again you don't want to take a rash decision so talk to all your friends and family about what they suggest and then just go for it full throttle. All the best.
