Is the JEE main cutoffs given on josaa website for particular category, the category rank or the all India rank. and if yes then what is the difference.

Hi

The  cutoff rank or closing rank in josaa represent

  • CRL  i. e common rank list  rank / overall rank for general category
  • For OBC SC ST and EWS category the closing rank represents the respective category rank

Difference

the difference between CRL and category rank is that CRL is overall rank while category rank represent your rank within the category you belong to.

For example,

Let's say that 100 students attended JEE main examination and you were one of them and got 80 th rank among those 100 students.
Out of those 100 students, 20 were obc and let's say you also belong to OBC category and let's assume that among those 20 students you scored that second highest marks then your OBC rank will be 2 .

Thus, in this case your CRL or overall rank will be 80 while your OBC rank will be 2.
