it usually depends on your rank and not as such on your score ... well better the score better the rank ...

normally the procedure for the engg/B.Tech course allotment followed is that the person with the highest rank is called for counseling first and asked which course he want to go for and thus a seat is allotted. therefore all the best course seats get filled up by the top rank holders and so it goes on later on the lower rank holders are called and they have "scavenge" whatever is left for them.
