The selection completely depends on your rank.

In 2018, the closing rank for the Power Engineering branch for general category candidates was 1721.

In 2017, the closing rank for the Power Engineering branch for general category candidates was 1531.

In 2016, the closing rank for the Power Engineering branch for general category candidates was 1319.

From this cutoff, you can see that the cutoff is increasing each year.
