Yes, Definitely you will get any decent nits or iiit .

Try for the NITs preferably, first try in your home town.

If you belong to general category, then it's difficult to get CSE in top nits but you can get CSE in lower ranked nits .If you have reservation, you may get CSE and other top course in nits too.. at this rank.

You can get a decent IIIT at your rank , so also fill up there ,even you may try there for CSE or IT branch.

One thing I want to suggest you, that you should consider you interest first  to choose your branch.

Don't choose any branch randomly ,find your interest and passion,then search branch and college according.

With 17000 rank (assuming CRL) you hold a very strong chance of selecting at even the top 5 NIT's. 

But let me make it very clear, for opting an ideal engineering college

• you must be clear with your branch selection. Yes brother I'm serious on branch selection if you have taken a branch unrelated to your interest then you might find engineering miserable. So be clear with your branch options and then decide your engineering college.
