After the complete failure of Cripps Mission, Quit India movement was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on 8th August 1942. In this Gandhiji raise the slogan 'Do or Die' from the Gowaliya tank Maidan and demanded for complete independence and the provisional government after the withdrawal of Britishers from India. Many eminent leaders came forward like Ram Manohar Lohia, Aruna Asaf Ali, JB Kriplani and the other major leaders were put behind the bars.
