Hello Aspirant,
In the NIT Surathkal GATE cutoff list, G1 and G2 refer to seat categories for admission through CCMT counselling.
G1: General pool of seats—includes all primary category seats like General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, PwD.
G2: Additional or supernumerary seats—may include seats reserved for specific categories (e.g., industry-sponsored, foreign nationals, or special quotas) depending on the institute’s policy.
For most candidates applying through GATE via CCMT, G1 is the main seat category you should focus on.
All the best for your M.Tech admission process.
Dear student,
At NIT Surathkal, the terms G1 , G2 , etc., in the GATE cutoff list refer to different specializations or program groups within the same M.Tech department. These are not related to student categories like General or OBC.
For example, in the Mechanical Engineering department, Thermal Engineering might be listed as G1, while Design Engineering could be G2. Similarly, in Computer Science, Information Security might fall under one group, and Data Science under another.
Each group has its own set of seats and a separate cutoff based on the number of applicants and availability. So, if you're applying, it's important to check which group corresponds to your preferred specialization.
