At first ,i will tell you ,what is IIIT & why it is established by government.

To address the challenges faced by the lndian IT industry and growth of the domestic IT market, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) ,Government of India intends to establish twenty lndian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT), on a Not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) basis.

A major objective in establishing IllTs is to set up a model of education which can produce best-in-class human resources in IT and harnessing the multi-dimensional facets of IT in various domains. While the number of students produced by these IIITs would be small, the impact they create would be great.

See these are the motive behind the formation of IIIT. Now as IIITs are newly institute ,so the cutoff for these Institute is slightly lower than than the established NITs ,so if you are medicore student and wants admission in government technical institute which is also a Institute of National Importance ,then you must study for IIIT . You will become IIITIAN , just like IITIAN & NITIAN. You will have more market value than any general private institutions.
