Dear Arundathi, there are around 50,000 Medical seats in both Government and Medical Colleges across India. And then there are 15 lakh students who registered for NEET this year. Now your rank in NEET is determined on the marks you have scored and your category. So if you are from a Reserved Category, the cut off is different from the cut off if you are from General Category. This determines your rank. And each college has its own cut off. MBBS has 9 semesters with 4 and 1/2 years of study and 1 year mandatory rotatory Internship program. Coming to the fees, Private colleges and Government colleges have a different fee structure.

For open category, rank above 5000 will get you a seat in government college for MBBS. The fees varies for government and private colleges. In government colleges , fees is relatively low as compared to the private colleges. For government college, the fees is around 5000-6000( AIIMS), for other government colleges the average fees ranges from 35,000 per annum to 2 lakhs per annum. For private college, the fees is quite high, that is, around 5,00,000 to 25,00,000 per annum. This course is for 5.5 years, that is,4.4 years of academics and 1 year internship.
