Hello,
If you are scoring around 120 marks in JEE Main mock tests, it usually falls in the 88–93 percentile range, but this depends heavily on the difficulty level and normalization of the paper.

Many coaching mock tests are deliberately tougher than the actual JEE Main, so scoring lower in mocks is not a bad sign at all. In fact, it helps you build exam temperament and improve problem-solving under pressure.

From my personal experience, I scored around 134 marks and still got close to 98 percentile, which clearly shows how much the paper difficulty can impact results. With 120 marks, IITs are not possible through JEE Main but you can still get new NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, state government colleges, and reputed private universities.

Category matters a lot, students from OBC-NCL, SC, or ST categories may get better college and branch options at the same percentile. Keep analyzing mocks, work on weak areas, and stay consistent.

All the best for your JEE preparation.

Scoring around 120 marks in JEE Main mocks is a decent starting point, but it places you in the 90–93 percentile range , but also depends on the exam shift. With this score, top NITs may be difficult , but you can still get state government colleges, private universities, or lower-tier NIT branches in some cases. Your aim should be to gradually push this score to 150–170 , which significantly improves college options. You should focus on accuracy, revising weak chapters, and avoiding silly mistakes.

Dear candidate,

With around 120 marks in JEE Main mocks, you should realistically expect a percentile between 88 and 92. It can vary depending on the paper difficulty and shift .

What you can aim for

GFTIs like BIT Mesra extension campuses and other central funded institutes

State government engineering colleges through state quota

Private colleges that accept JEE Main scores

In NITs, chances are low for top branches, but lower branches may be possible with home state quota
