As you are in first year of UG so you have lots and lots of time before you give CAT exam. As I have already told you the syllabus of CAT exam so you need to focus on the basics of each chapter. Your first prime goal should be strengthening your basics so that later you can start trying difficult questions and also learn tricks to solve them.

For Quantitative ability you can start with a book by Arun Sharma which has a pretty good explanations for solutions and a variety of difficulty level questions.

For Verbal Ability you need to read a lot of good books written by the good authors like Charles Dickens, Agastha Christie, Sydney Sheldon and various good newspapers like Hindu which will help you in improving your English literature. For vocabulary you should start learning 3 new words daily with correct pronounciation and meaning and use them in your daily conversations so that you can memorize them properly. For RC section you should start reading passages and understand the thought process of author. What are his intentions and what message he actually wants to deliver through the pasaage. This will help you in solving most of the questions asked below the passage. You can also refer the Arun Sharma book for verbal ability to know different types of questions asked in the CAT exam.

Along with this once in a while you can also give a mock test and analyse solutions of each mock test thoroughly which will help you in overcoming your mistakes and making up a strategy to attempt the paper which will definitely help you in improving your marks and percentile. These mock test will also give you a proper idea of CAT exam.

It will also help you in analyzing your strength and weakness. As you have enough time so you can work on your weakness and convert them into your strength.
