To become a Food Inspector, candidates must pass the UPSC All India Food Inspector Examination. Pe ople can also take the SSC FCI (Staff Selection Commission Food Corporation of India) test.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India also posts job openings for various positions, including food safety officer, on a regular basis and holds an exam to choose candidates for the position.
