If you want to go for courses like mining,petroleum engineering and earth science related course then ism(iit dhanbad) is beat but as far as core engineering branches are concerned then iit bhu is better option with best package.Though ISM infrastructure is very good while IIT bhu infrastructure is horrible.

Hello there,
Both the NIT colleges when compared are equivalent to each other. As per my view iit varanasi is better than iit Dhanbad. IIT varanasi is an older iit with high placements and good packages whereas iit Dhanbad has recently been built. The mechanical engineering packages are good in  both of the NIT colleges.
