Hey,

Microbiology and Pathology deals with the same theme, the micro organisms, the two fields differ in many aspects. Microbiology is a field in the medicine that includes the study of various micro organisms like bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc. Pathology is also related with the medicine field which includes the study of disease and its diagnosis.

Microbiology can be approached in several different directions.

Microbiology for patient samples is a branch of clinical pathology (clinical pathology basically is the analysis of specimens for aspects other than cell or tissue morphology and includes things like blood chemistry etc).

A microbiology laboratory for patient samples would be part of a pathology laboratory. Pathology laboratories can either be part of a hospital or separate, part of a private practice or corporation. The microbiology section of a pathology laboratory would be headed by a pathologist (a medical doctor specialized in pathology), possibly a pathologist with further training in microbiology.

A microbiologist has at least a bachelors degree in microbiology and could work in a laboratory that analyzes human samples. This person does the technical work with the specimens. The pay would be that of a laboratory scientist in the relevant country.

A microbiologist may also specialize in non medical fields, such as soil science or plant pathology or product preservation. Various industry and research positions would be possible. Microbiologists can also acquire a PhD. and perform scientific research as part of a university career.

So, it really depends on what your after.

Hope it helps.

Both fields are unique in their own ways. You have to find where your interest lies. BSC pathology is basically dealing with human diseases like how they are caused, whats their origin, what are the symptoms and what can be the cure. It teacches you to work with the human fluids and tissues for diseases diagnosis.
