Artificial ports are the man made harbours which are constructed by forming breakwaters. Breakwater is a form of embankment which protects inside water from outside storms and waves. In India oldest artificial harbour is Chennai port and was formed way back in 1881 during British period. It is also known as Madras port. It is third largest port in India and is famous for petroleum, motor vehicles ancillaries and sunflower oil imports.
