Epidemics I online course by edX is a five-week introductory-level course under the subject of Medicine. This is a self-paced course with English as the mode of instruction. The training is designed by the University of Hong Kong with Gabriel M. Leung, Kwok-Yung Yuen, Joseph Wu, and eight other academicians as the training instructors.
The Epidemics I certification course showcases that despite medical breakthroughs due to technological advancements, there is a significant increase in vulnerability against infectious diseases. The training is curated to explain why these threats are in action by understanding the key scientific principles that form the basis of epidemics. Also, candidates will understand the actions taken for public health to prevent and control such adversities in the 21st century.
By the end of the Epidemics I training programme, candidates will acquire all-round knowledge about epidemics and their evolution. The curriculum will also cover the Ebola and Zika outbreak, informatics on global health of the next generation, ecology, the emergence of infectious diseases, and the discovery of a novel microbe. The self-paced programme provides two options to enrol in the course, namely, paid and free modes. In the paid mode, the learners can have unlimited access and a certificate of completion. In the free mode, the candidates will get access to the course only for a limited period.
