can i write GRE exam in b. tech 2nd year (1st sem). with one back log

Praneeth Gupta 9th Mar, 2019

Hello Vikeshbalineni,

Graduate Record Exam(GRE) for cources in MBA,MTech etc in foreign universities doesn't check for any kind of grades or are not concerned about your performance in your college. As registration involves creating a account, give your personal details and just pay for it.You just need to clear the age restrictions.

But problem arises during the admission to the institute which you get through GRE.As you have back log institute may hesitate to give you admission.Otherwise you can write GRE without any hesitation even if you have back logs.

But I suggest you to clear all your back logs before you appear for GRE. For now you go just give GRE for experience as you can tke GRE any number of times. There is no fixed number of attempts one can take. However, there is a condition that thesre must be a 21 days gap between any 2 consecutive tests a student can appear in with a maximum of 5 tests in a calender year,

So ahead champ. All the best!!!

Sir i ve done 12th in science maths and ba with maths as subject, can i give gre??

Kajal tomar 4th Mar, 2019
Hello aspirant,

Yes you can give GRE exam.
As per your query you must know that there is no age and qualification bar to sit in GRE. Students who have completed their undergraduate program can take GRE to get the admission in a PG program, especially if they want to study in US or Canada.
The students might check the University websites and courses to understand if they need to take the GRE exam or not. As different Universities have different score requirements and criteria, university and course requirements should be checked before appearing for any exam.
Hope it helps,thank you.

Whats the difference between "GRE General test" and "GRE Subject test"? Can i appear for both exams?

Gautam Manohar 4th Mar, 2019

Hey buddy, the main difference between the two exams is the content, but there are also differences in the structure. the GRE General Test has multiple-choice questions, numeric entry questions, and a writing portion. You also have the option to take it as a computer-based or paper-based exam. Because there are 3 different sections verbal, quantitative, and writing and the test is also broken up into 30-35 minute periods. whereas the GRE Subject Test is multiple-choice only and can only be taken as a paper-based exam. The test has only 1 section and the total testing time is about 3 hours. the GRE General Test is normally required by most graduate programs, so you will most likely have to take it. the GRE Subject Test  is often not required. If your program mentions it as a requirementthen take the test and yeah you can appear for both the exams. good luck

GRE general test or subject test, which is better for PhD?

Sumedha Saxena 5th Mar, 2019

Hello Rohan Soren,

GRE is an examination which is compulsory and required for admissions in post-graduate degree programmes. Thus, you need to give GRE no matter what. If the programme you have shortlisted requires you to give a GRE Subject Test then you take the test, but otherwise it is no mandatory.

What is GRE?

  • Graduate Record Examinations is a standardized, globally accepted examination which is required in many universities internationally for any of the post-graduate degree programmes.
  • The scores of these examinations are used to evaluate your compatibility with the universities you apply to and to use them as a common ground to compare you with other applying candidates.
  • It is accepted in universities in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe and UK.
  • In this test the candidate is evaluated in his quantitative ability, analytical writing skills, and verbal reasoning skills.
  • To give this test an individual should have a huge control over mathematics and English. You need to have a huge English vocabulary and should know basic mathematics.

What is GRE Subject Test?

  • GRE Subject Test is not normally required by most of the post-graduate programmes, however, some universities need scores to further evaluate a candidates ability to fit well with the programme offered.
  • The test evaluates you in six subjects namely - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Literature, Psychology and Physics.
  • Even though universities do not specify the test you must take, it is always adviced that you take one which is closely related to the subject you wish to pursue. In order to improve your profile you might have to give an examination on a particular subject you plan on studying abroad.

What is the difference between the two?

  • The GRE General test has MCQ type questions, writing portions, and numeric entry portions. It can either be taken as a computer based test or a paper based test. The test is usually broken into sections of of 30-35 minutes.
  • The GRE Subject Test has only MCQ type questions and it can only be taken as a paper based examination. It has a single section only. The examination lasts for three hours.

I would suggest that you select universities which fit your needs and then check whether they require you to take a GRE Subject Test. If yes, then give it or else make the GRE General Test as your main priority and work hard to score the best results so that you get the university you are aiming on going to for your Ph.D.

All the best!

  • GRE Subject Test: In order to improve your profile you might have to give an examination on a particular subject you plan on studying abroad. They offer an examination in biology so it is advised that you give that examination as it tremendously enhance your chances.

In UK you will have to apply to the universities you choose through the UKPASS and then individually apply to each university from their online website portal.
